South Liverpool Domestic Abuse Services has been awarded £374,638 of funding over five years from the PH Holt Foundation – a philanthropic organisation that assists small and medium-sized Merseyside charities in navigating the difficult times ahead, so that they can continue to provide critical community services.
Last year SLDAS supported more than 1500 women and girls who were experiencing domestic abuse in South Liverpool. In a review carried out by Femicide Census (requested by the sector) Merseyside held the title of the worst region for femicide in the UK. Domestic abuse-related killings account for 85% of all femicides in Merseyside.
Director Rebecca Radcliffe comments: “We are incredibly grateful for the support shown to our small but vital service from P H Holt over the years. This additional generous funding will mean that our services can remain in place for anyone who needs us over the next five years.”
“Domestic abuse has been coined by both Government and police services as a national emergency. This year we have already seen a huge stepchange in the way that media reporting of men’s violence is viewed in the wider context of systemic violence – not just a ‘tragic, unpredictable, isolated incident’.”

Lesley Martin-Wright, Chair of the Action on Abuse Fund, stated: “The Trustees of the PH Holt Foundation have awarded funding to South Liverpool Domestic Abuse Service for the next five years. The Action on Abuse grant is intended to help the charity enhance its outreach and offer additional services for victims and survivors.”
