We’re finalists! 🥳

We’re thrilled to have been selected as a finalist for the 2025 Charity Heroes Awards from the Benefact Group.

South Liverpool Domestic Abuse Services entry has been selected by the judges as a finalist in the Triumph Through Adversity category.

The overall winning charity in each category will receive a £5,000 donation and the two runners up will each receive a £1,000 donation.

On Thursday 20th November we’ll be travelling down to the Tower of London to find out if we are overall winners.

Our director Rebecca Radcliffe comments: “One of the longest surviving domestic abuse charities in Liverpool, SLDAS has been supporting women and girls in for 27 years.  Over a quarter of a century of offering a lifeline to women – helping survivors escape their perpetrators and start a new life fear from violence, abuse and fear.

Domestic abuse remains a national crisis, with Merseyside amongst the worst affected areas. Yet, specialist services like ours face ongoing financial instability due to short-term funding – mostly outside government sources.  This makes it difficult to develop, grow or even meet growing demand.

This funding insecurity leads to high caseloads, staff burnout, and inconsistent support for survivors. Still, we continue to adapt – launching an in-house counselling service, expanding outreach to young people, and delivering prevention work in schools and marginalised communities.

This year we secured five-year funding from independent sources, offering rare stability – but this is not a sector-wide solution.  Local and PCC funding remains limited and uncertain. Without long-term government investment, vital services will continue to struggle.

It is through our network of incredible supporters and dedicated team that we are able to continue to operate.  Many survivors we have supported over the years continue to volunteer and donate their time and energy to ensuring that our service remains a safe place where women and girls can receive support without judgement.

Through our free in-house volunteer and training services, we are developing the next generation of domestic abuse service workers and counsellors. We train them to spot the early signs of of domestic abuse, take action to plug the gaps and keep vital community services running.

Our small charity has a positive impact on those women and girls brave enough to reclaim their lives, free from violence and persecution.”
