COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER TO MARK #IWD2026 WITH ‘WAG’WALK

Families from across Speke & Garston took in a free community walk to mark International Women’s Day 2026 (#IWD2026).  The ‘WAG’walk (Women and Girls) walk celebrated women’s and girl’s achievements whilst raising awareness about gender equality.

The ‘WAG’walk on Saturday 7th March was a joint event held by SLDAS and CE3 Community Enterprises .

CE3 director Lin Boyd said: “We were really pleased to join forces with SLDAS to mark this year’s International Women’s Day with the WAGwalk.  We work with many women and girls in our community and provide them with the tools and support to shape their futures – as well meeting other like-minded local women at our events and workshops.”

One of the community groups that regularly uses the CE3 centre is Speke Community Choir, and they were there to welcome the walkers at the end of the walk – celebrating with uplifting songs by inspirational women. Families also took part in an IWD scavenger hunt around the Parklands area.

Marketing officer at SLDAS Sara Mak added: “It was an uplifting event for us all.  We also raised awareness of our multi-lingual support services for women and girls as well – including Polish, Urdu and Arabic for those communities that can be hard to reach.”

In 2026 SLDAS has chosen to promote its #mychoicemylife campaign.

Sara explains: “#mychoicemylife aims to encourage women and girls to understand that they do have choices when it comes to how they are treated, how they choose to live and where to go for help.”

The event was supported by Co-op Community Fund and Karen Egleton brought goody bags and refreshments for the walkers, Nelson’s Treats provided freshly made doggie medal biscuits and Jackson’s Entertainment sent along Skye to entertain the families for free.
